Environmental Poem by Chris Bunton
I didn’t destroy the world.
So why am I to blame?
Am I a chemist creating plastics?
Am I a corporation spreading them wide?
Am I an inventor creating engines?
Am I a corporation making billions?
Am I cutting down the forests?
Am I building million dollar homes?
Am I a politician handing grants to my buddies?
Am I a scientist going where the money leads?
Am I poisoning the sea with my leaks?
Am I passing laws to make you submit?
Am I working my corporate job today?
Am I getting a pension from the government job I quit yesterday?
Am I turning a blind eye to reports on my desk?
Am I doctoring safety tests for my friends?
Am I smiling on the TV screen?
Am I paid to lie about it all?
I Am just a lowly worker scraping to get by.
I Am just one voice trying to change it all.
So, why am I being blamed?
Why am I the one who must hang?
