Drunken Lad

It started long ago.

I grew up drunk;
raised by a drunken man,
in a broken drunken land.

Generations in the bars,
of the tiny coal town.
with bar stools all their own.

Something happened with grandpa,
He turned to demon drink.
He got sucked in.

His wife and kids grew up poor,
A coal mining family
My dad to be.

The drinking, the cheating,
the gambling and bar fights.
The never home at nights.

The fear when he did come home.
The cussings and beatings,
the devastated feelings.

To love him anyway.
to grow up to be like him.
violent and drunken.

He died long ago.
and this drunken lad,
tried to be a man.

But, what is a real man?
it’s not what I thought.
being in a house of rot.

Living a tough guy life,
in a beer bottle haze.
Days of manly craze.

Till broken by God.
waking up to life
and His guiding hand.

Rock bottom destruction.
To build something new.
Faith and hope grew.

The drunken lad,
grew to a real man.
Despite the curse’s plan.

Our Peace

Our Peace Comes Through Knowing Him “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”—Phil. 4:6-7 You’ve seen the slogan “Know Jesus. Know Peace. No…

The Coming Storm

The signs of the times Meteorologists warn us about coming storms. Whether it’s a freezing rain and snow or a summer tornado. Folks believe them. They stock up on bread and milk. They buy icy melt. They break out the snow gear and the shovels or flash lights. They check on family. They stay home…
