A Fantasy Sonnet
He watched her through the trees as she bathed.
Beautiful slave of an evil king.
He desire to take her to his mountain cave,
to hold her tight and hear her sing.
She loved that he was watching her,
forbidden hope making her ache.
She looked all around, just to be sure.
If caught, they could be burned at the stake.
She swam under the limbs of a willow,
where he waited, just to be near.
Her head on his chest like a pillow.
He watched to make sure it was clear.
Their longing embrace was too short.
She had to return to that king’s court.
A poem I wrote about a fictional fantasy world I created. A world of oppression, and control. A place where the rulers are treated as gods, while the common folk are treated as slaves. It’s all been in my head for decades. Perhaps it’s time to tell the tale. Are there stories hiding in your mind? Tales you never had time to get out onto paper?
