Overcome Evil With Good

Attacking evil with evil, just makes more evil

All of us have had things happen in our lives that we would define as evil.

We could make a list of the things that are evil, and it would not cover everyone or everything. You know when evil happens to you, whether anyone else agrees that it’s evil or not.

So, what do we do about the evil that happens to us? Do we get revenge? Or is success after the fact the best revenge?

We might want violence, or revenge or some other thing, but are we just creating more evil? Are we causing collateral damage to innocent people in our effort to get revenge?

Do we really care?

And that’s the question. What does the doing of evil, do to us on a spiritual level?

Does doing something evil, whether justified or not cause us damage we do not see? Does it open doors to things we do not want in our lives?

When we hurt people, are we setting ourselves up for more hurt later?

Will we reap what we sow?

The scriptures say, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom. 12:21)

When evil happens to us we can let it consume and destroy us. Let’s say our loved one divorces us, or our employer fires us for no reason.

We immediately come under attack and we are tempted to return evil for evil. We are tempted to fall into deep depression and to go out and and do things that really just hurt ourselves because that will show them.

We want to punish them, by getting ourselves into bad situations. This opens more and more doors into our lives for more trouble to come.

But, when evil comes, whether it’s an illness or poverty. A divorce or loss of job. Whether it’s an attack or accident, or the death of a loved one or some other devastation or trauma.

We stop. We turn to God, and seek Him.

Because this attack in our lives can very easily lead us down a wrong path. The devil will get you to do everything under the sun, except what you should do. You’ve seen it happen to others.

So stop. Do not return evil for evil. That is the battle. Forgive and love. That’s the battle.

Give it to God and watch Him work. Let Him guide you. let Him bring you through.

Not returning evil for evil is the first step.

Then, start overcoming evil with good.

Warn people. Help those who are also suffering. Use the things God showed you in your struggle.

Going through a divorce? Use the things God showed you to help others struggling.

Lost a job? Help others who have suffered loss. Remember what it was like to be broke and worried.

Did you over come cancer or trauma? Get involved. Help others.

Did you rise up and succeed from a tough past? Help others to overcome.

Our lives are like candles which only burn for an instant. Use your light to help others see the way and avoid the same pitfalls, you climbed out of.

On Father’s Day

Father’s are under attack It’s Fathers Day and probably the sermons you will hear today, and the things posted on social media, will be attacks on Father’s. Not As The World Gives

God Doesn’t Do Like The World Does. Jesus said. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”—John 14:27  (John 14:1-31–in context) When God calls us, and we turn to Him, confessing Jesus…

Does God Feel Distant?

He is with you. Believe it. There are times in our lives when we feel that God has abandoned us. It seems that He doesn’t hear and we don’t feel His presence or see His movements in our lives. I have experienced the same. God has opened my eyes to the reality of it, and…
