It’s a fact
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.“— (Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson)
This is one of the founding statements of the United States. It is foundational in the concepts of liberty. It is also a spiritual truth.
The idea of equality has been argued about. It’s obvious to anyone who has lived in this world long enough to understand anything that we are absolutely not equal.
Our rights are trampled upon. There are people who totally deny the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There are even people who deny the idea of a creator.
And that is why this preamble to the Declaration is a radical statement. It is spiritual in nature. It is not of the flesh.
We are created by God as equals. This is a spiritual fact. God is not a respecter of persons. He does not look at us based upon any bias, where one is higher than another. He doesn’t care about your money or your earthly status. No one is better than anyone else. We are all sinners. We are all fallen. We are all loved by God because He is love, and seeks to save us.
The American founders did not view the King or Royals or anyone, as superior simply by birth alone.
We lose sight of this equality by living in this world, which seeks to break us and make us subservient to others who think they are better than us.
Spiritual truths are things that are facts. They are things that God has established which we can stand on in the face of opposition. It doesn’t matter who agrees or what arguments are made. Spiritual truth is spiritual truth.
We are equal. We have the right to live. We have the right to be free. We have the right to pursue the things that make us happy.
Why?
Because God allows it. He states these things in His Word.
He condemns murder and the cruel treatment of others. He commands love. He came to set us free. He supports us in our efforts to live a life free of evil, which leads to true happiness.
But, you must stand on these truths. You must demand “I am equal! I have a right to live! I am free! I will pursue happiness!”
You must demand it because this world will beat you down. The so called leaders. The bosses. The people in positions of power and a million folks who think they are better than you, will work to keep you in your place.
I’m not telling you to be rude or unkind. But, to stop letting the enemy use people to beat you down.
When we realize these are spiritual truths we must also realize that there is a God who created us and these things. He is for us. He is on our side. He came and died for us to set us free and rose for our justification.
He wants us to know Him and have a relationship with Him. He wants us to see that He is good, and seeks to renew our minds, souls and spirits from the corruption of this world and the things we have done in it. From the circumstances of our birth and the impact of the enemy.
Equality is not something to impose. That destroys freedom and rights. But, it’s something that we should embrace and let play out in our lives and our attitudes toward others. It is love. Can you impose love?
Imposing equality or equity, destroys freedom. We are equal in God’s eyes. It’s a fact. It is not based upon our possessions. It is based upon how we treat each other.
Imposing equality or equity, works to hold back success. It should be done through love. We joyfully and willingly help others and lift them up, because we know we have a creator who has died to lift us up and save us.
Our equality is a fact in Him.
